Daffodil Hill Lavender Festival 2009
The 2009 Festival is scheduled and plans are underway! Mark your calendars to be here July 11 and 12, with our Preview Party the evening of July 10.
The plans are all coming together and you're in for a real treat this year. We have several new, exciting artisans along with some of our favorites......
Vicki Wooten and Beth Olson, Gossamer (check the latest edition of Where Women Create, at Borders - 10 pages!), funky, fun and fabulous designs - you'll just have to come see.
Stella Rose Powell, Silver Falls Jewelry, the most fabulous silver bracelets you'll ever see, designed by a generous, sweet and beautiful woman.
Jennifer Haas, Bittersweet Baking, some of the most mouth watering, gorgeous and delicious sweets you'd ever hope for - just wait!
Carla Wesson, Perpetual Pillows, coming from Pullman, WA, with her one of a kind designer pillows, along with her wonderful outlook and sweet nature.
Treecia Meyer, But is it Art?, bringing her wonderfully stylized collage cards that are too beautiful to pass by (when I saw them I had to have several - you'll see.)
Jill Warila, Cloud Cap Pottery, with her total mastery of design and glazing, her work is uncomplicated and lovely - I for one am collecting her mugs and bowls.
Carol Curtis, quilts and comfy collectibles for the home, was a big favorite last year. Her eye for color coordinating and her use of soft, comfortable fabrics make her products irresistible.
Kelly Phipps, metal garden art plus new surprises this year. She's one of my personal favorites (okay, so I'm biased). Her art is whimsical, clever and is multi-functional.
Judy Hillman, garden and houseplants, pots, yard art, and lots and lots of laughs. One of the most fun women around, and with an eye for choosing the best selection of healthy plants and perfect accessories.
Judy and Tom Luther of Wood With a Past and Glass with a Future are going to delight us with their creative recycled furniture and fused glass
creations - a cooler couple you'll never meet!
I am delighted to announce a special guest artist, George Birchell, of Rustic Creations, will be displaying his stunning bowls and spoons, all handmade of burl. His work can be seen in the Luther's booth and he has graciously agreed to be there to share his knowledge and answer questions. A great opportunity to learn from a sweet and gentle man.
Micki Voorhies, cutie patootie and imaginative metal artist will be here to dazzle and entertain, I'm sure, as well as display her very popular metal shoe collection and garden art (she and Kelly are best buds so it's okay).
The Sundance Lavender Farm will be here with their more than luscious lavender/fruit jams. I was lucky enough to have a private sampling of these 6 (soon to be 7) flavors by the creator, and a new addition to our wonderful circle of friends, Susan Farley, and let me tell you......YUMMM!
Judy Phipps, art studio and lavender house, yes, some things never change - me, I'm always here, but there are new lavender products, and new art. Hope to see you here - stop by and introduce yourself!
We are featuring many lavender products, u-pick lavender and will have a booth demonstrating and teaching those interested in creating their own wreaths.
Of course, we will once again feature the award winning wines from Eola Hills Wine Cellars, a fresh and delicious menu from Cafe Today, and the ever popular coffees and cold blended drinks from Rick's Place.
All weekend we'll be entertained by the lively and fun Cash Country Band.
Always on hand, will be our indefatigable helpers, the Colorado Contingency, the Bainbridge Islanders, the wonderful helpful committee and friends from Salem and maybe, we're hoping, the two Sisty Uglers from California. What a crew - they'll all be here to welcome and drive you up the hill in their little farm vehicles and to make your visit memorable.
Admission on Saturday and Sunday is $5 with all proceeds going to Women Ending Hunger, a part of the Marion/Polk County Food Bank. To learn more about this group, they will have a booth at the festival.
If you want to beat the weekend crowd, join us for our Friday evening Preview Party, July 10, beginning at 6. Stroll the booths, socialize, indulge in gourmet appetizers and wine while enjoying the wonderful voices of Joe and Janet and taking in the beautiful setting and sunset. Tickets for this event are $20 and should be purchased in advance (they are limited) by calling Kelly Hadley at 503 566-7376.
Questions can be emailed to daffhill@wvi.com.
Directions to the Festival:
At Marion Street Bridge in Salem, go west on Hwy 22 about 6 miles (just past the sign for the Independence turnoff). Turn right at Oak Grove Rd. (next to Restlawn Cemetery). Go to the stop sign; turn right past the little church. The first road you'll come to will be Crowley, turn right – its gravel. It's the second on left, and will be well marked. To Mapquest, the address is 6435 Crowley Rd., Rickreall, OR 97371
| | The 2008 Festival has come and gone and we're left with memories of a magical weekend shared with old friends and new. The Colorado Contingency and the Puget Sound Four came to help with the endless chores that accompany an event such as this. After one evening of relaxation, food, wine and much catching up, Friday began with a hike to the top of the vineyard to have a go at some tai chi, then a group ceremonial tree planting.

The Friday night Preview Party was welcomed in by the wonderful voices of Joe and Janet, singing everyones favorites and the gourmet appetizers prepared by Michelle and Evelyn. Wine was served by Eola Hills Wine Cellars, the evening was warm and balmy so a good time was had by all. |

 | Chefs, a few helpers, and friends.

| | | | A peaceful time |
|
 | Friends enjoying our sunset.

Since woman's work is never done, the next day came and Saturday's chores began. First came the arrival of guests which involved driving one of two farm vehicles down the lane to the pasture where the parking took place and chauffeuring them up, giggling and laughing by the time they arrived.
|
|
As guests disembarked, they were greeted by the sounds of the talented musicians, Cash and Company, playing and singing everyone's favorites.
And who can resist the chicken dance?
|
|
The Artisans were a perfect blend of wonderful people and beautiful crafts.
|
|
Among the hundreds of visitors I was surprised by two cousins and a sisty
ugler (don't ask).
|
|
The Festival, after all, was centered around the glorious scent and healing properties of lavender, so no one was disappointed if they came to immerse themselves in it. The picking, the wand making demonstrations and the sachet kits were all enjoyed by many.

|
A few lucky ones got a refreshing cool spritzing from Kady.

So, the fun is over, but my heartfelt thanks to so many.

And so, with many laughs and happy memories, they must go. My sincere appreciation for you all....I look forward to when we gather here again next year...............Judes
